<aside> 📌 We are making available soldering stations in Sulzberger Quad B for students in the course to use. Note that this is the first year this space will be made available and it will be done on a trial basis.

As this lab is a research space shared between 3 different faculty members in Barnard Computer Science, it’s extremely important that you be respectful of the space and keep it tidy and well maintained!

If we run into issues with student use of this space, we will no longer make it available for course use and you will need to use the Design Center during operating hours.

Using the Soldering Stations

There are 2 Hakko FX-888DX soldering irons available.

  1. The switch is on the right side – be sure to turn off when you’re done!

  1. Be sure to wet the cleaning sponge before use and regularly clean the tip by brushing the soldering tip lightly against the sponge (it cleans corrosion on the top). It’s also a good idea to use the brass wool to clean the tip as well.

  1. Turn on the exhaust fans while you’re soldering!

It actually works even more directly when you rotate the exhaust facing down with the vents towards your soldering work
